A MUST FOR THE METAPHYSICAL STUDENT

Charles Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, is definitely one of the foremost metaphysical teachers and authors. Each of his books is worth studying at least once. This isn't to say that one should agree with all of his expressed viewpoints. He himself fought against his movement's having a specific credo, arguing that as times change, perspectives change. But his viewpoints are all well thought out and well worth examining. The book does give a metaphysical interpretation of the Bible, and as such, I don't recommend it to staunch Biblical literalists.
As the title suggests, this book does go deeply into the healing process from the metaphysical perspective, and the astute reader will learn why a healing might not occur in his life, and how to correct the situation. This definitely is not an anti-medical book. Fillmore believed that a person may well need to go to doctors, if he feels he must. On the other hand, he did not believe that a person can be truly healed without faith in the healing power of God, whether that healing power comes directly to the patient, or through the hands of a medical practitioner. I do recommend the study guide at the end of the book which provides questions which help the reader to focus on the key points of each chapter.

my Spirit took a long gulp of water and went aaahhhh

I have been reading Charles Fillmore since 2010 which was after I was in the hospital for 10 days with a pericardial effusion and a respiratory infection. I had the evangelical family members praying over me and for me and I would have accepted their religion if it were not for it being so shallow and negative. So this lead me to the internet and I learned about New Thought. I found out about Fillmore and his Unity Church so I went to their website and ordered some books from them. I have always been turned off by traditional Christianity so when I read Fillmore's books it was like my Spirit took a long gulp of water and went aaahhhh. I recommend this kindle book for anyone who is tired of the evangelical-fundie-catholic side of Christianity and want to find a new angle on everything you have been taught. By the way, I at one time was turned off by God and Jesus but now he's alright with me.

New Thought ~ An Early New Age Slant on Christianity

Charles Fillmore and his wife, Myrtle Page began the "New Thought" Christian movement ~ parallel to Mary Baker Eddy's Christian Science, yet not so extreme. Louise Hay studied Charles Fillmore heavily and borrowed widely from his ideas. The idea that we can heal ourselves and hone the Christ within us as individuals may not sit well with those who claim to be Christians. However, this was exactly what the Christ called Jesus of Nazareth was trying to get across. "The works I do, ye can do also, even greater." Let us not not make Jesus into a thought form dumping ground, but, rather be inspired by Him to love and heal ourselves and others. This is the best way to glorify God in any religion, however you perceive Him/Her. This book will make a great addition to any Christian or New Age religion library.

About the Author
Amanat Chaudhry is President and Engineering Manager with Advanced Twpsom Petroleum Systems, Inc. in Houston, Texas. He founded Twpsom in 1995. The company is involved in the development of PC-based well simulation and management software support models and programs in reservoir and production engineering. He has more than 20 years of international and domestic experience in reservoir engineering reservoir simulation development and applications, well testing, water flooding, EOR techniques, reservoir studies and operations. Mr. Chaudhry formally worked as a Senior Reservoir Engineering Advisor an Senior Staff Reservoir Engineer of Pertamina, the state Owned Oil Company of Indonesia. He also worked as Senior Reservoir Engineer with Core Lab Inc. - now Western Atlas in Reservoir Simulation Application Group in Dallas. He has started his career in the oil industry with Reservoir PVT & EOR Lab Inc. (subsidiaries of Core Lab Inc.) in Houston, Texas, as a Research Associate. Her holds MS degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Chemical Engineering both from the University of Pittsburgh, PA.

Best book for Reservoir Engineers

This book is very well written and would be a very useful on the shelf of Reservoir engineers who want to have quick look at the methods to do well tests on the available well pressure data. I found the explanations for the tests to be short, but then they are precise! You can use them to understand the subject pretty easily if you have a basic understanding.

I'd not recommend this for a novice. You should have knowledge of reservoir engineering subject and maths (differential equations) if you want to purchase this book and use it. It is on the expensive side too.

As for myself, i'd use this book as an when required as its difficult to remember all the tests and how they should be used (i'd not use the calculations myself - but its good to have).

A nice purchase personally.

About the Author
Surinder Parkash received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, in 1971. From 1971 until 1993, he gained experience working for national petroleum companies throughout the Middle East and India. From 1994 until 2000, he worked for the Kuwait National Petroleum Company in the corporate planning department and at the Shuaiba Refinery. At present he is working as an independent consultant in the field of oil and gas processing.

Well composed, detailed and knowledgable

The author does a good job in this book of explaining all that individuals in the petrochemical industry would like to know. This book is an excellent guidebook with well regarded diagrams and charts and a clear logical flow in material.

The vast amount of experience of the author in the industry glares at the reader. Highly recommended.

Not very useful for those outsiders

As a practicing chemical engineer with years of experience, albeit, outside of the refining segment of the CPI, I found this book useless. I was hoping for a detailed explanation of processes that might help me learn my way into this side of the business. The PDFs are useful and interesting. I learned a little from that. What I really wanted was a gritty process engineer's view of refining. Instead, I found an overview. If you want to gain an understanding of oil refining, don't go here. Instead, learn what you can from material on-line, such as Hydrocarbon Processing, Chemical Engineering, or other trade magazines, including my own, Chemical Processing.

The title of this book should be "An Overview of Oil Refining Practices."

This is a british text, so it takes a couple of chapters to get used to the different spelling of some words. BUT, it is a really great read with a lot of different examples than U.S. texts.

About the Author
Glenn Griffin teaches courses in creativity and portfolio development and leads the Method Creative program at Southern Methodist University's Temerlin Advertising Institute in Dallas, Texas. His research has appeared in the Journal of Advertising, the Journal of Advertising Education and Journalism and Mass Communication Educator, among other publications. He is a frequent speaker at professional and academic conferences on the topics of creativity, advertising education and social responsibility. Deborah Morrison teaches conceptual thinking and brand development and is the Chambers Distinguished Professor of Advertising at the University of Oregon in Eugene. She was one of the original architects of the world-renowned Texas Creative program at the University of Texas at Austin and is a board member of The One Club for Art & Copy in New York. She regularly judges awards shows and consults with agencies and other organizations about creative capacity and ideation.

Beautiful and surprisingly unoriginal

I just finished reading this book from front to back. It was very interesting and a lot of fun.

One thing you'll learn is that the creative process, as described by James Webb Young in his 1965 book A Technique for Producing Ideas, is the same for all the people who contributed to The Creative Process Illustrated. They all just quote Young in illustrated format, using fish or networks or ink blots, and some of them don't even seem aware that they're using Young's technique at all. This was probably the most profound insight in this book.

In short, The Creative Process Illustrated is the long scenic route through Young's technique. Young's book is the shortcut. Some people like long, scenic drives, and others don't. If you're in doubt, get both books and go from there.

Love it!

I love this book. You can see how different a creative mind thinks compared to another. There's an irreverent and very human side of the designers revealed through their sketches/notes/explanations of the creative process, and you can tell by the cover. The only thing I don't love about this book is its size. The pages are too large and I cannot carry it around without bending its corners. Other than that, it is an excellent book. If you're looking for a more serious, text-only book I recommend Millman's How to Think Like a Great Graphic Designer.

If you're a CW or AD that's trying to get some inspiration to help you execute your latest creative brief, this book is NOT the one you want to buy. It's great for briefly seeing inside the minds of some great and accomplished creatives, but there's nothing in here that's going to help refine your creative process.

Comparing how individual episodes, characters, and themes are treated in different texts, and how this treatment relates to intellectual debates, literary trends, and socio-political conditions at the time of writing, she shows how competing priorities shaped myriad variations on a single story and how the scholars and patrons of a corner of the Islamic world distant from Baghdad viewed their own history.

Offering a framework in which historians of Christian Iberia (and of Christian Europe more generally) can approach and make sense of culturally-significant texts from Muslim Iberia, this book will also be relevant to broader debates about the historiography of early Islam. As such, it will be of great interest to scholars of historiography, world history and Islamic studies.

This carefully balanced monograph is certainly destined to become the standard text on the subject of the causation, contextualization and evolution of traditional Arab accounts of the Andalusian conquest into later tropes, formats and formulae for differing audiences. It is probably one of the best accounts of its kind since Stanley Lane-Poole’s The story of the Moors in Spain (1886) and will appeal to quite a broad audience... Clarke has produced something fairly new and exciting here – not yet another discussion of the 711 conquest but rather more precisely a history of medieval historians at work.
